As a mom, I well understand the pressure involved in having your child photographed. Finding just the right outfit. Convincing the child to actually wear the outfit. Making sure the child is clean. And rested. And well behaved. The stress!

As a photographer, I know a happy child is what matters most but as a mother, all too often, I find myself snapping at my own kids. I mean, how can I not have amazing photographs of my own children? Talk about pressure.

And then there are days like today, when after eating an ice cream cone (black raspberry, no less) at our favorite farm, my daughter decides she wants to be photographed. As luck would have it, I had my very favorite camera and my very favorite 24-70 mm 2.8 lens.

Far from clean (loving Photoshop for the removal of ice cream under the nose), far from a perfect outfit or hair style, far from studio poses, but I am loving these shots. This is my girl and this is how I want to remember her.

The first one is going on a canvas. Seriously.
